Hi Lokesh ,
I have been a corporate trainer for 18 years now and have trained professionals at all level. Office politics is one common problem that cuts across all levels in a company. All professionals have experienced it , some are vocal about it and some are not. It can be more or less in your team depending upon the mix of people , type of work and the relative positions of people. Following tips can help you navigate through office politics :
Accept that office politics exists - Wherever there are people , there will be politics , it is a fact which is not new and can not be changed .Office politics happen in every workplace.
Keep your cool - The person who over reacts and loses cool in situations at office is not seen as handling pressure well and breaking very quickly . It always works to your disadvantage. Other might take undue advantage of it .
Understand the informal network - Navigate accordingly , never share confidential information or your trade secrets casually , you never who shares this with who .
Make friends /Build your network - Networking at work is one of the best ways to build a reputation for yourself and get recognized for your good work. When a lot people know you personally , it is difficult to single you out and target you.
I was denied promotion 2 times because of office politics. My teammate got promoted . I left that job . In my new job also , I see politics . I keep away as much as possible and concentrate on my work.
Can't escape. I do tit for tat. I am good to good , bad to bad. If it is question of my integrity and personal loss , I get into it and play like them .
Chankya neeti is evergreen. Beat them with their own weapon.
Worked for me. Now I am taken seriously.
Be more politicl then them.
